The Kankakee Area Pioneering Healthier Communities News and Resource site

Welcome! We are here to help you make the healthy choice the easy choice for you and your children. Our goal is to create an environment that promotes and supports healthy eating, an active lifestyle and maintaining a healthy weight. Live Healthy Kankakee County is a local group and part of the statewide Pioneering Healthier Communities initiative. Grown from the Y's Activate America and sponsored by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, the statewide PHC initiative is primarily focused on childhood obesity issues.

According to James S. Marks, Senior Vice President, Health Group Director, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, "The major public health problems of our time will not be solved merely by individual actions. Rather, individuals, families, and local leaders must come together to make their communities ones in which healthy choices are easy to make and are supported by the environment around them. These communities ultimately will be healthier and more satisfying places to live, work and play."

This website will aid you in discovering and implementing strategies to achieve a more healthy environment for our community's youth. Here you will find research and tools on nutrition, exercise and lifestyles that can help improve not only the health of our community's youth but improve their academic performance, and give them life long tools for changing the way America lives.

LWKC is working with school teachers and officials to adopt policies, practices, and programs that encourage and support physical activity and good nutrition. LWKC is also working with community leaders to make healthy living choices the first and easiest choice for everyone.
